On track for great car-free days out
Shotley Peninsula
All you need to know for visiting Shotley Suffolk & its peninsula
Enjoy great car-free days out enjoying the wonderfully wildlife-rich and super-scenic riverside walks and hidden treasure attractions of the Shotley Peninsula. Look out across the Stour or Orwell, and over the Haven for views of both the harbour-lands and cruise-ship terminal at Harwich and the towering cranes and mega-cargo ships of the Port of Felixstowe at Landguard.

Shotley
Shotley’s peninsula is full of surprises. Meet a mighty Indian prince in the HMS Ganges Museum by Shotley Gate’s bustling marina, or learn about ‘Button Boy’ navy trainees scaling a 43 metre mast. At hilltop Shotley church, a vast naval cemetery remembers the fallen.
Check out stunning river views from ‘The Quarterdeck’ in Shotley Heritage Park, or Stour-side, by St Mary’s church, Erwarton. Anne Boleyn’s uncle owned Tudor Erwarton Hall, but is her heart really buried here? Arthur Ransome clearly lost his to Pin Mill. Follow Swallows-and-Amazons-style sail-boats up the Orwell and you’ll soon see why.
Plan a Haven Adventure
Heading off to explore the coast or countryside of The Haven couldn’t be easier! The Harwich Harbour Foot & Bicycle Ferry links Shotley Gate with Landguard Point at Felixstowe and with the Ha’penny Pier at the heritage resort of Harwich on the Essex side of the Stour estuary.
A seasonal daily timetable operates (weather permitting), with tickets bookable online to avoid disappointment.
