Children’s Trail – £1.00
Explore Felixstowe Museum with our trail for beady-eyed young visitors.
Felixstowe Museum is an award-winning community museum with charitable status, located in Landguard’s rare Victorian Submarine Mining Establishment since 1982. Explore artefacts which bring to life the military and social history of Suffolk’s most southerly seaside town.
Our permanent collections house objects of maritime, military, social and local interest and tell the story from Henry VIII to Charles II.
Archaeology collections share insights into Suffolk’s world in the Palaeolithic period and there are also artefacts found on our Felixstowe doorstep which date to Roman and Medieval times. Our social history galleries showcase how people have lived and worked in Felixstowe through different points in more recent times.

Mines were electrically connected, tested and stored here, but this was just part of a much bigger site. They were transported on a narrow gauge trolley way.
Original rails which led out to the riverside mining jetty are on view as well as traces of another trolley way along the Museum corridor.
Busy bees will love Felixstowe Museum’s Beehive Café – a bright little hideaway tucked away in historic surroundings. It shares opening times with the Museum but is open to visitors and non-visitors alike, serving delicious snacks, cakes and treats as well as that all important coffee or cuppa!
Named after HMS Beehive, Britain’s most successful wartime base, located nearby, the café is the ideal spot to refresh, relax and maybe even reflect a while…
