About The Landguard Trust
The Landguard and Felixstowe Conservation Trust (that’s its full name!) is a charity set up in 2022 as an umbrella organisation for Landguard as a whole. The Trust manages Landguard Nature Reserve, works with the other charities and volunteer groups at the Landguard Fort Trust , Felixstowe Museum and Landguard Bird Observatory and liaises with outside bodies such as East Suffolk Council, Natural England and English Heritage.
The Landguard Trust aims to create a unified visitor experience. Projects completed to date include new Brown Tourist signage, dramatically improving the broadband coverage at the site and a unified website, as well as supporting the other charities at Landguard. New projects are being planned to enhance the area’s appeal while safeguarding its historical and ecological significance, ensuring the Landguard Peninsula remains a treasured destination for future generations.

A history of partnership
The Landguard and Felixstowe Conservation Trust replaces the former Landguard Partnership. This carried out a similar role between 2008 – 2022. It works with stakeholders to take Landguard forward in its evolutionary journey, improving facilities for the local community and visitors, while safeguarding the nationally important historical site and habitat found on this unique piece of land at the southern-most point of Suffolk.
Trust Chair, David Gledhill, (pictured here) played a significant role in shaping the future of the Landguard Peninsula and was instrumental in securing the lease of the Landguard Nature Reserve, plus income from the carparks and café rent which is now used solely for the benefit of Landguard.

The importance of being a charity
As a charity, the Trust is much better placed to apply for funding grants to deliver the improvements and enhancements which will ensure Landguard can thrive for years to come.
The charity remit is to promote – for the benefit of the public – the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment and preservation of the historical architectural, archaeological and natural heritage of Landguard Point and surrounding areas.

A real sense of combined purpose
Conservation and learning are key objectives for the Trust, as well as continuing Landguard’s development as a visitor destination and community volunteering hub.
The remit of the Trust is achieved by working with stakeholders and partners, and by providing or assisting in the provision of advice, support and grants.

The Landguard Trust board is made up of representatives from other stakeholder organisations including East Suffolk Council and English Heritage as well as independent trustees with a wide range of skills and experience.
The board increases cooperation across the site and provides for greater flexibility and focus on preserving the site’s heritage, nature, and maritime elements.
