Volunteering at Landguard Point Felixstowe Suffolk

Volunteering at Landguard in Felixstowe is full of opportunities and great fun too. A heritage and nature conservation skills hub, it is a place where just a few hours of your time can go an incredibly long way. That could be regularly, or just occasionally. You might want to learn something new, use existing expertise or make the most of the chance to go off in a different direction.

Whether you like the sound of volunteering at the Landguard’s fort, nature reserve, Felixstowe Museum or just offering up your time to support the Landguard Trust wherever help is needed, you will be most welcome.

Could you be a Landguardian? Whatever your knowledge, interests or skills, we would love to hear from you.

Benefits of volunteering with us

Whatever your age, gender, background or skills, time volunteering at Landguard is time well spent and much appreciated. We celebrate that all our volunteers have something to offer and bring different needs and skills to the table.

From socialising to sharing knowledge, being part of a team or getting on with something quietly, our aim is for all our volunteers to be comfortable and enjoy their time at Landguard and play to their strengths. Upskilling, engaging with others, continuing a trade, passing on expertise, getting things done –  volunteering at Landguard engenders a real sense of community and purpose.

Skilled? Non-skilled? Looking to upskill?

Carpenter, plumber, woodwork painter … archivist, researcher, tour guide… meeter, greeter, gift shop keeper… gardener, designer, project manager… grafter, planner, helper-outer… Everyone is welcome to volunteer at Landguard.

You may be newly retired or looking to gain valuable work experience to add to your CV. You may want to explore your interest in conservation, tourism, local history or military and maritime heritage. You may understand historic buildings and landscapes, or just wish to learn more about them in a practical way.

Whatever you are able to share, at Landguard we will be sure to give you something back.

Flexible to suit you

With all the different jobs and roles Landguard has to offer, we can work with you to find something worthwhile for us all that’s tailored to the time you have to offer.

Volunteering might be something that you want to do on a regular basis, to help with a routine. Or it might be a little ‘me-time’ – just the hour or two that gives you a totally different break from being a full-time carer perhaps?

Whether you have an hour or two or whole days available; every day, every week or just now and again, we’re flexible and can work with that.

Make friends with  Landguard

We all know that nothing beats a good cuppa and a chinwag. Taking a break from whatever you’re doing at Landguard as a volunteer brings with it the opportunity if you wish to get to know a wider sphere of people and make new friends.

There’s a real cameraderie around organising all the activities, events, conservation projects and visitor oppportunities at Landguard.

We think if you get involved once, you’ll want to be back for more. Yes please! And thank you.

No matter how much time you have to spend supporting Landguard, everyone at Landguard Point treasures what you can offer. We also particularly value the unsung role of each and every volunteer as an ambassador for what Landguard offers both as a community and to the visitor.

Spreading the word in the gentlest possible way; sharing experiences with others who live locally and might consider donating an hour or two of their time; sowing the seed with friends, family or acquaintances that Landguard has everything to offer and is worth more than just the occasional visit… as a Landguardian, you can help us almost without thinking and more than you would ever know

Volunteer @ Landguard Fort

There’s simply so much to do at the Fort to keep it running smoothly. It’s quite a year-round operation and you could say we need a little army to achieve it!

Volunteers at the Fort can get involved in most aspects of caring for the building as well as its visitors. There’s great experience to be had and a chance to develop new skills – or revitalise old ones! – in a pleasant, supportive atmosphere.
