Kite-flying Disturbs Wildlife

No Kite Flying

Flying a kite at Landguard is not permitted. Many Nature Reserves have specific regulations to ensure the protection of their unique environments. Restricting kites is often part of these regulations to maintain the integrity of the Reserve.

The Nature Reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and kite flying can disturb wildlife, especially birds.

Additionally coastal areas can have strong and unpredictable winds making kites difficult to control. Flying kites in public spaces can cause tripping hazards when kite lines cross walkways and can crash or drift and collide with pedestrians.

Landguard Nature Reserve is covered by a Public Space Protection Order, that prohibits the use of kites on and over the Reserve.
