Clare Sams – ‘Self/Contained’ Exhibition
Felixstowe Museum is proud to be working with the artist Clare Sams, who in 2023 became Suffolk Libraries’ first ever Environmentalist in Residence.
Clare’s ‘Self/Contained’ exhibition features a series of ten textile collages which explore issues of sustainability and waste through their depictions of the Port of Felixstowe, which dominates the Museum’s location.
Visitors will be able to experience the exhibition through a space dressed by Clare herself.

“Self/Contained aims to highlight the issue of waste in the fashion and textile industry, in particular the practice of exporting waste clothing to other countries.”
The environment will be front and centre throughout the exhibition, with reused textiles and building materials, and low impact interpretation. The exhibition space will be creatively dressed by Clare, and will encourage visitors to look at their own habits and the impact they have.
Self/Contained is supported by Museum Development South East, and will be accompanied by a series of textile workshops for varying ages and abilities throughout 2025.
